Executive Summary
Following EcoNusantara’s (ENS) verification of a grievance filed by Friends of the Earth/Walhi against threePT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk (AAL) subsidiaries-PT ANA, PT Mamuang, and PT LTT-AAL developed and launched a comprehensive Action Plan on June 20, 2024. The Plan was formulated with ENS’s assistance to ensure transparency and adherence to Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) principles throughout the process. It incorporates recommendations from the ENS report and was developed through consultations with key stakeholders, including academic experts and local communities. AAL’s grievance management procedure guides the Plan’s implementation, emphasizing measurable outcomes, inclusive engagement, and continuous collaboration with affected communities and local leaders.
To monitor progress for the first-year action plan implementation, AAL conducted a joint field visit withRobertsbridge and ENS as independent consultants on October 1-2, 2024 and 19- 21 June 2025. This visit includedmeetings with local civil society organizations (CSOs) to explore opportunities for collaboration in promotingsustainable palm oil practices, followed by engagement with academics from the University ofTadulako (UNTAD) to review the Action Plan. Additionally, AAL upheld its commitment to transparency through one-on-one stakeholder meetings in Bangkok (November 11-13, 2024) and in Kuala Lumpur (5-7 February 2025) anda Stakeholders Workshop in Singapore (December 12, 2024), ensuring broad engagement and feedback integration.
